What are your future dreams?
Dreams…that’s a powerful word and I believe if you dream it then you can do it and I would be honored to share the stage with country artists such as Miranda Lambert, Pistol Annies, Sunny Sweeney, Kevin Fowler along with some of the amazing Texas artists that share the same passion for country music. Of course also touring on my own bus with my band would be epic. I would also like to be involved in the philanthropy part of the music scene when I can such as Sara Evans and Martina McBride do… If you have a talent then you have an amazing gift and giving back just makes it that much better. This is the beginning of an amazing journey and excited to share it with you all!
What are your hobbies besides music?
Spending time with my family, camping, shopping, attending local events
Where was your first ever show?
I remember that night at Hills Cafe. I was a guest with Billy Garza and 40 Guns and was so excited so invited my co-workers, friends and family. There was no rain for months except that day when we were supposed to perform out on the legendary stage. We ended up playing inside and the venue was packed and the crowd was amazing, it was like I was on a auditorium stage with thousands of people cheering, whistling and flashes from cameras everywhere. After the show one of the doctors I worked for came up to me and said “This is what you should be doing, this is who you are!” That was just another confirmation that I needed to make this happen.
Who or what is your biggest Inspiration?
I would have to say Miranda Lambert and gotta add in Sunny Sweeney. They are true to the bone, say what’s on their minds and alot of their songs just plain make sense. Guess it’s a Texas gal thing but they play true country music with their own style. Legends I would say Johnny Cash because he overcame obstacles and later became a legend. Then there is the legendary Loretta Lynn who paved the way for female country artists. Movers and Shakers!
What is the hardest thing about being in a band?
Nothing hard I would say, it’s all about having fun and seeing the people dancing and just having a good ole’ time. I guess when I eventually go on tour it might be different being the only gal, lol. But everybody get ready to rock some country music and have some fun because this gal is ready to make things happen!
Where do you see yourself in a year?
On the road promoting my new EP/album, songs on the music charts and hearing them on the radio, playing some sweet gigs with my band, opening for some dynamic country artists, writing new songs and living life to the fullest.
Website, Facebook, List anyway fans can hear or see your music?
My EP is in the works and will be released by the end of this year and what a way to start 2012 so look out for it!!! I have covers on my facebook at facebook.com/janiebalderasmusic and my website www.janiebalderas.com. Originals coming soon!
Where do you get ideas for your songs?
I have been quoted that my life has always been a country song so some of it is from life experiences or just hearing other stories from random people and transforming it into a song. Sometimes something random will just pop in my head and I have to start writing it down on anything close by. But you will also hear some fun crazy stuff happening in my songs!
What family member or friend has been the most supportive in your musical career?
My husband Art, he has been the core of it all. He saw my passion for country music and supported me 110%! I picked up the guitar this past summer and when I advanced to the Nashville Country Showdown Finals for Austin, Tx and he made sure I had the best guitar we could get for our budget including raising money, he said I was playing with the big guys now once I passed the preliminaries. He always encouraged me even to the point where he would call me at home and say “How’s my country star?” I have truly been blessed and thank God for him.
Have you always wanted to be a musican? As a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
I don’t think there was anything thing else I wanted to do. I would watch the CMA and CMT Awards and wonder what it would be like to just be up there. As a little girl I would volunteer to sing in class, at church or anywhere I could and sometimes sing in front of the mirror with a brush. My dream was to be a singer and one day be on tour sharing my music with everyone.
Being such a talented singer/songwriter name one talent you dont have but wish you did?
Western Barrel Racing, would have loved to do that. Those gals rock during the rodeo and with such gracefulness. I love seeing all that bling on their horses bridle, now that really catches my eye.
If you were stuck on a island and could only have 1 album to listen to who would it be?
As long as it’s some good country then I am good!
